MARIJKE

Remember the spectacular mural whose colorful panoramas adorned the walls of the Aquarius Theatre during the Los Angeles run of “HAIR”, or the walls and interior of The Beatles’ “APPLE” Cultural Center in London? These remarkable examples of art history were created by Marijke, the multi-talented artist from Holland. As the lead artist of The Fool collective she also painted instruments, designed album covers, stage costumes and promo material for bands such as Cream (including the most recognizable rock guitar of all time: the Eric Clapton Gibson SG.

Her artwork was featured in the book “Electrical Banana”, Masters of Psychedelic Art, followed by a book signing party at the Museum of Modern Art in Los Angeles. During 2012 Sonos Studio in Hollywood hosted a month long one woman retrospective exhibit featuring past and present works. Art and fashion samples are now in the permanent collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the South-West Museum in Los Angeles.

SUMMER OF LOVE
with Marijke of The Fool

1967 was “The Summer of Love” the Beatles released Sgt Pepper, the Monterey Pop Festival made Jimi Hendrix a big star, Rock & Roll was everywhere and hippie dom was blossoming. Young people were compelled politically to stand up together for human rights and racial and economic equality. 1967 was a great year which blew the lid off the bubbling cauldron of music and art with new sounds and visions. There was magic in the air….
